MY NAVY TUGS & OTHERS
YTB-795 was my first TUG. I was trained by BMCS Ray Longaker...This guy was
so damn good most Tugmasters were jealous of his knowledge/ability.
I was blessed to be trained by him. I worked submarines/YD's/Barges ETC. in Apra Harbor during my tour & took YTB-795 (Ketchikan) as Tugmaster.
Without his input & knowledge of make-ups I wouldn't have made a pimple on a
shitcans ass.
As a Tugmaster in Guam (Apra Harbor) we were the Pilots as well. I can not think
of a better situation a sailor could want.
It was INDEPENDENT DUTY as far as I was concerned!!!
I am sure all Tugmasters feel this way...loved their crew & Tug.
After my tour in Guam I was stationed in Subic Bay P.I.
In Subic I was assigned to YTB-775 (Wauwatosa). Here as Tugmasters we first had to prove or ability to move very large barges (Crains) ETC. without Pilot assistance.
This was a piece of cake for me & the make-ups I was taught (by Longaker in Guam) were the envy of the Tugmasters.
Yep...the other Tugmasters were jealous!!!!
My Division Officer (BMCS Stanly Polmounter) was very pleased & commented numerous times.
The 775 boat was called to recover a A-4 Skyhawk & the Pilot that crashed in Subic Harbor.
NOTE: Polmounter has since passed away & is burried in Subic Bay (Olongapo) Philippines.
